Drexel University and its College of Information Science and Technology is partnering with IP3, Inc., the nation’s leader in Information Assurance and Information Security education and research, to conduct a two-day technical workshop for corporate IT security directors on the Drexel campus, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20-21, 2008.

Drexel’s iSchool will host IP3’s seminar series, Strategy to Reality: Don’t Look Back in the Creese Student Center, Living Arts Lounge.

This intensive two-day workshop fosters an environment for dialogue and collaboration among researchers in academics, IT administrators, and professionals in the industry, and has been delivered to over 6,000 IT security professionals nationwide.

The seminar provides a balance of theory and real-case scenarios demonstrating how security systems have been breached and what solutions are out there to prevent it from happening to your business or organization.

Drexel University faculty, staff, students and the affiliated corporate partners of the University are eligible for $12,000 in scholarship funds to attend the workshop.

Faculty, staff and students should contact Brenda Sheridan, Director of College Relations or Jennifer Lally, Career & Events Services Coordinator in the iSchool, for more information about qualifying for Drexel scholarships and discounts.  Both can be reached at 215-895-2474.

Designed to extend security training throughout the region, the two-day seminar is open to cybersecurity professionals, including business continuity professionals, IT managers, systems administrators, auditors, CEOs, analysts, engineers, policy makers, and information security professionals.  For a course outline visit, www.ip3seminars.com.

David E. Fenske, Dean of The iSchool at Drexel and Isaac L. Auerbach Professor of Information Science, commented: “We are pleased to host IP3.  Information assurance and related security issues have become the most talked about areas within information technology.”

“Working with the University is a tremendous opportunity,” says Ken Kousky, IP3’s President/CEO.  “Drexel is committed to bringing vital educational programs to the local market, and IT security is a vital and timely topic.  Security vulnerabilities and Internet exploits are exploding just as corporations get saddled with increasingly complex regulations.

With cybersecurity a top issue for U.S. corporations and government, information technology education is critical.  As CEOs, executives, managers and IT professionals, we are held accountable to a variety of information security laws and regulations, including Department of Defense Directive 8570, Sarbanes-Oxley, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, GLBA and HIPAA,” says Kousky.

In 2007, the Department of Homeland Security established the Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK) to establish a national baseline representing the essential knowledge and skills that IT security practitioners should possess.  The 14 EBK domains form the critical roadmap for the 2008 Strategy to Reality curriculum.  They will be addressed along with these top security issues:  Risk Management and Compliance, Cyberlaw, VoIP, Wireless and Virtualization, Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Convergence.

No single two-day workshop provides as much management and leadership insight for the struggling IT security professional.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is one of 20 cities IP3 will visit during its 2008 national workshop tour.  Cost to attend the seminar ranges from $195 to $895 (with video Apple iPod and one-year podcast subscription for additional CEUs).
